Course Synopsis
Precision instrumentation is at the heart of effective dental hygiene practice. Sharp, well-maintained instruments not only enhance clinical efficiency but also promote ergonomic comfort, ensure patient safety and facilitate optimal treatment outcomes. This session will highlight the critical role of instrument maintenance and sharpening in delivering high-quality care. Participants will explore evidence-based techniques, practical tools, and time-saving strategies to restore and preserve instrument integrity—ensuring consistent performance, tactile sensitivity, and professional excellence in every procedure.
A hands-on component will provide participants the opportunity to practice sharpening techniques under guidance, apply learned principles using various instrument types, and gain confidence in achieving and maintaining precise cutting edges for optimal clinical performance.
Participants must bring their own instruments to this workshop {a dull sickle scaler, a dull universal curette (Barnhart, Columbia, or McCall), and a dull area-specific Gracey curette}.
