MDHA Bridget Major Honorary Award
 
The Bridget Major Honorary Award will be presented annually to a Manitoba dental hygienist who is known as a passionate and caring co-worker.  This individual is a lifelong learner and demonstrates a commitment to serving others.  Seen in the work of this dental hygienist is the spirit of care for their patients, co-workers and communities served - those who know the recipient have been impacted in a positive, lasting way.

The award consists of:

  1. Plaque provided by the MDHA
  2. Donation of $500 to Cancer Care Manitoba
  3. Award presentation at the MDHA Annual General Meeting

Procedure:

  1. Nominations will be accepted from MDHA members only.
  2. Nomination form will be completed by the nominator, clearly outlining the reasons the individual has been nominated. 
  3. Recipient will be chosen by an ad hoc committee, consisting of members of the MDHA Board of Directors as well as the general membership.
  4. Award will be presented to the recipient at the Annual General Meeting by the President of the MDHA. 

Criteria:
The nominee:

  • Is a member in good standing with the MDHA.
  • Contributed to the profession and/or their community
  • Demonstrated a spirit of care for their patients, co-workers, and community
  • Committed to lifelong learning

MDHA Advanced Studies Award

The award consists of:

  1. A $500 honorarium provided by the MDHA.
  2. An award presentation at the MDHA Annual General Meeting.
  3. The award winner will be published in the MDHA Montage and announced on the MDHA website.

Eligibility:

  1. Applicant is a current member of the MDHA.
  2. Applicant has been accepted to or is enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate or doctorate program at an accredited institution in a degree program advancing oral health.
  3. Applicant is in good academic standing in their program of study (most recent transcript or letter of acceptance).
  4. Applicant submits the required documentation to support their application.
  5. Applicants can apply every year of their program enrollment but are only eligible to receive the award once.

Procedure:

  1. Applications will be accepted from MDHA members only.
  2. The following items must be submitted with each application:
    1. Current CV
    2. Essay (500 words maximum): the essay should outline the details surrounding your extended studies, your commitment to lifelong learning and your proposed contribution to the dental hygiene profession.
    3. Two letters of recommendation from current MDHA or CDHA members.
    4. Proof of acceptance and/or good academic standing in program (copy of letter of acceptance or copy of most recent transcript).
  3. The recipient will be chosen by an ad hoc committee; may consist of members of the MDHA Board of Directors as well members of the general MDHA membership.
  4. The award will be presented to the recipient at the Annual General Meeting by the President of the MDHA.
