The Manitoba Dental Hygienists Association (MDHA) is in search of Registered Dental Hygienists who are MDHA members and would like to become a mentor within the Manitoba Dental Hygienists Association (MDHA)/School of Dental Hygiene (SDH) Mentorship Program. With the safety of our mentors, students, and community at the forefront of our planning and decision-making, we have decided to proceed with a virtual program once again for the upcoming Fall term. We are hopeful that in-person events may be permitted in the Winter/Spring and will pivot our programming to reflect this, if it is safe and reasonable to do so. We were thrilled to receive such positive feedback from our mentors and students on the virtual nature of the program last year and we look forward to some new virtual events this Fall.

Your role as a dental hygiene mentor would include:

1) A two-year commitment (ie. you would remain with your student for the duration of their 2 years in the School of Dental Hygiene).

2) Attend an online orientation session each fall over the 2 years.

3) Connect with your student throughout the year:
Fall – online through one-on-one virtual meetings and a large online group event
Spring – possible in-person dental hygiene practice observation and a large group event

5) Be an available resource for your student if they have questions, concerns, or require support throughout their 2-year education.

This program plays a vital role in a dental hygiene student’s transition from student to private practice. As a mentor, you will have a lasting impact on your mentee’s educational experience and future in dental hygiene.

We would love to have you be part of our Mentorship Program. We invite registered dental hygienists from all walks of the profession – newer grads, established DH’s, specialty practice DH’s, etc. We require all mentors to have at least one year of experience in the profession and to be MDHA members. Keep in mind, volunteering for the Mentorship Program is a great way to achieve your PAR requirements through CDHM, and have fun doing it!

The commitment is small, but the rewards are BIG!
