As we get ready to welcome the incoming Class of 2025 to the School of Dental Hygiene, the MDHA/SDH Mentorship Committee has been working behind the scenes to prepare for the upcoming school year. It's an exciting time, and we invite you to consider joining us as a mentor.
If you are interested in becoming a mentor, the mentor requirements involve the following:
- Two Year Commitment: Mentors are paired with a student for the duration of their two-year journey in the School of Dental Hygiene program.
- Fall Term Connection: Meet with your student once in the Fall term for a virtual or in-person meeting, whatever works best for both parties.
- Observational Experience: Allow your student to observe you in practice once in the Winter Term (January 2024 – April 2024) for half a day (approximately 3 hours) at a mutually agreeable time.
- Ongoing Support: Be an available resource for your student if they have questions, concerns, or require support throughout their two-year education.
Thank you for considering this opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the next generation of dental hygiene professionals. Your dedication and involvement are invaluable to the success of this program. Keep in mind that volunteering for the Mentorship Program is a great way to contribute to your CCR hour requirements with CDHM. The commitment is small, but the rewards are BIG!
If you have questions or are interested in being a mentor this year, please email us at: Kaleigh.Warden@umanitoba.ca or Katherine.yerex@umanitoba.ca
We look forward to hearing from you!
Sincerely,
Kaleigh Warden and Kathy Yerex
